CBS Sports and Cumulus Media have announced the creation of a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week lineup of national sports programming. Content will come from both CBS Radio and CBS Sports with Cumulus Media as the network’s exclusive radio syndication company handling affiliations and sales. 67 Cumulus stations will use content from the new “CBS Sports Radio.” CBS-owned local stations including WFAN New York and “Score” WSCR Chicago will contribute content. Eight CBS-owned stations will carry CBS Sports Radio full time including AM stations in Houston, Philadelphia, Detroit, Tampa, Baltimore, Charlotte, Riverside and Las Vegas. Cumulus-owned stations in 26 markets will also be affiliated. The full service will debut January 2, 2013, however there will be sports updates available beginning September 4th. NBC Sports and radio syndication company Dial Global recently announced a partnership to create a similar sports radio network. The new networks would be the first serious rivals to ESPN.
