The date September 11, 2001 is seared into the American consciousness because of the terrorist attacks on the United States that would forever change the way we live and how we see and relate to each other. The date is also significant because it marks the 10 year anniversary of Premiere Radio (and before that ABC Radio Networks) syndicated radio talker Sean Hannity’s appearance on the national radio stage. Ten years after 9-11, Hannity’s show is heard on more than 500 stations across the country by more than 14 million listeners each week.
Julie Talbott, Premiere Radio’s President of Content and Affiliate Relations said of the milestone, “We’re excited to celebrate this anniversary with Sean. His intelligence, charm and broadcasting savvy make him a dominant force in the world of Talk radio. We look forward to reaching many more milestones together.”
In a statement, Hannity said, “After 10 years in syndication and nearly 25 years on air, my love for radio continues to grow. I’m grateful to be working with some of the best people in the business-from my staff, to affiliates, to my radio partners and sponsors; I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Thank you to the listeners and fans who join me on this radio journey each day and help make this one of the best jobs in the world.”
Hannity’s place as one of the most influential talk radio hosts in America is difficult to argue with, a more lively debate would be on whether it has been since his debut in the wake of 9.11, ( he actually made his first appearance day before) that the entire tone and tenor of talk radio has changed, becoming increasingly more polarized and adversarial.
