Westwood One which recently has focused more on sports play-by-play, is getting back into the sports talk business, signing actor-comedian Robert Wuhl (“Bull Durham,” “Arliss”) for a daily, PM drive sports talk show. The Robert Wuhl Show is being billed as a “fresh, new sports talk program with a unique comedic twist.” The three hour daily syndicated radio show will air live Monday – Friday from 3p-6p ET from the Westwood One studios in Culver City.
The network hasn’t dabbled in sports talk since the days of “The Fabulous Sports Babe” and Scott Ferrell and Westwood One founder Norm Pattiz says, “This marks the first step in Westwood One’s renewed focus on original programming for radio. Robert Wuhl’s unique talent, humor and passion for sports, plus a digital rolodex that includes every sports figure and fan on the planet, will make the Robert Wuhl show an experience like no other. Big time fun is coming to sports talk.”
“This opportunity combines all of my passions from sports, entertainment, media and interviews,” said Wuhl. “I come at this from a completely different perspective because, as far as I know, I am the only host in the history of sports talk radio that doesn’t vote for the Heisman Trophy, but does vote for the Academy Award.”
The Robert Wurl Show will debut in January.
