Randi Rhodes didn’t do her new radio syndication deal with Air America, but in Washington it’s as close as you can get. Starting Tuesday (6/23) Air America Media’s WZAA 1050 AM will air the syndicated “Randi Rhodes Show” through a multi-year agreement with Premiere Radio Networks. Premiere Radio Networks‘ newly syndicated radio talker Randi Rhodes joins the lineup at Clear Channel progressive talker KKZN Denver-Boulder. Rhodes replaces Air America Media’s Ron Kuby in the station’s 7-10pm timeslot.

KKGN San Francisco Program Director John Scott revealed on his station blog yesterday the news that fans of liberal talker Randi Rhodes have been waiting for. Not only will she return to Green 960 but to national radio syndication courtesy of Premiere Radio Networks. The home of Rush Limbaugh will syndicate Rhodes beginning May 11. Scott also simultaneously revealed, (in what seemed to be a carefully prepared stunt) that Randi was the winner of an online listener poll to determine the most popular Green 960 host. It’s been far too quiet lately on the Randi Rhodes front, but there have been some recent rumblings about a return to national syndication for the lighting rod talk radio host. Much of the whispering involves a reunion with, hold on… Air America Media. Some mighty bridges have burned down here, but there is a whole new regime since Bennett Zier took over the progressive talk network and Randi, when she’s right, on the right stations, has been a ratings magnet. Is anybody willing to take a chance here?

*UPDATE* Here’s a clarification to yesterdays post: according to the Wall Street Journal, the now bankrupt Nova M’s other host Mike Malloy, is switching to Phoenix-based start-up On Second Thought Radio Network LLC. which is not a reorganized Nova M but backed by Dr. Mike Newcomb, who was involved with Nova M until last year. Dr. Newcomb describes his new network as “talk radio for independent minds.” He plans to use former Nova M station KNUV in Phoenix as his company’s flagship.

Brian Maloney at Radio Equalizer is first out of the gate with this: Nova M, the radio syndicator built on the Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy shows is done. It was also revealed in a letter from Rhodes’ attorney Robert V. Gaulin that Nova M founder Sheldon Drobney has attempted suicide and is hospitalized in Chicago. Drobney is also the founder of Air America and was instrumental in launching Randi Rhodes on a national platform.
