Congratulations go out to Syndication One morning host Rickey Smiley, who made Talkers Magazines “Talkers 250″  list even though stablemates Al Sharpton and Warren Ballentine missed the cut. The Rickey Smiley Morning Show appears on the Talkers 250 list in the Hot Talk category which by the way, somehow excludes similar syndicated urban hosts such as Tom Joyner, Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden.

*UPDATE* Arbitron’s Portable People Meter methodology is the villain in a petition put together by the Atlanta listeners of Warren Ballentine and Al Sharpton who have been cut at WAMJ-FM. The petition charges that the number of participants in the PPM panel was not representative of the target audience of the two shows and led to the decision to drop the hosts. It also showed a little research on the subject. Here’s the petition. Syndication One talkers Al Sharpton and Warren Ballentine are out as part of  Radio One’s WAMJ …

The rumors are rampant as to just what Radio One plans to do on 107.5 in Atlanta after jettisoning the Smooth Jazz WJJZ the other day. This story has ties to syndication because some of the talk involves simulcasting Urban/Talk hybrid WAMJ (102.5). The station features Premiere’s Steve Harvey, ABC’s Micheal Baisden and the two Syndication One produced Superadio syndicated talkers Al Sharpton and Warren Ballentine. The talk/music hybrid has been wildly successful for Radio One despite being on the signal challenged Class A move in. The real test will …

KDAY-FM  Los Angeles began dismantling it’s mostly syndicated weekday lineup by dropping Syndication One’s “The Mo’Nique Show” last month. This week the proverbial other shoe dropped as the Westwood One syndicated “The Wendy Williams Experience” was also removed from KDAY. Newly signed station consultant Steve Smith has moved the station in a music-intensive direction, but kept “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” and “The Michael Baisden Show” to anchor morning and afternoon drive. KDAY market manager/GM Karla Santos says about the changes, “We needed to get back to serving the needs …

Ken Johnson the former VP/Urban Programming with Cumulus Broadcasting joins Dallas based ABC Radio Networks as Director of Urban Programming beginning Monday (3/10). Ken has spent time both on air and programming in Wilmington DE, Boston and Washington. But he’s best known for his nine year Cumulus stint where he oversaw about 25 Urban, Urban AC and Gospel outlets. Some find it a little ironic that Ken has landed on the network side of the business, because of his perceived lack of favor toward non local product. I don’t …
