Talkers Magazine has released it’s annual list of Talk Radio’s “Heavy Hundred” and Premiere Radio Network and Fox News commentator Glenn Beck (#5 in 2008) has leaped over Michael Savage as the 3rd most influential talker in America, behind Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. The list “heavily” weighted toward conservative talk hosts,  is part of Talkers Magazine’s yearly “Talkers 250“, and also features some  lower rated non-conservative or progressive talkers like Thom Hartmann (#10) Ed Schultz, Joe Madison, Alan Colmes and Stephanie Miller listed in the top 25.

At first glance this seems incredible but then again, not surprising. In a just released Harris Poll that asked people to identify their favorite TV host, Premiere Radio Network and Fox News personality Glenn Beck comes from nowhere to rank second only to television talk icon Oprah Winfrey. Of the ten personalities on the list, seven are talk show personalities. The rest of the list includes (in order) Jay Leno, Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Laurie, Jon Stewart, Charlie Sheen, Mark Harmon, David Letterman and Bill O’Reilly.

File this under  “you can’t pay for this kind of promotion.” Clear Channel radio kicked off two new FM talkers in North Carolina today, both dubbed “Rush Radio” with the Premiere Radio Networks syndicated radio host anchoring the lineup at both Raleigh’s WRDU-FM and Greensboro’s WGBT-FM. The Raleigh lineup also includes Premiere Radio Networks’ Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Jason Lewis and Coast-To-Coast AM with George Noory, as well as Compass Media Networks’ Todd Schnitt. After being sidelined for a few days due to an emergency appendectomy, Glenn Beck, tweeted over the weekend that he expected to return to his radio show today (11/10). Apparently however, Beck had second thoughts and will make his return on Wednesday. The Premiere Radio Network syndicated radio talker abruptly disappeared last Wednesday for what turned out to be appendicitis.  Beck returns to the airwaves with news that his latest book,  “The Christmas Sweater: A Picture Book” debuted at number one on the New York Times children’s bestseller list.

Don Imus has come full circle after his debut on Fox Business Network this morning. He’s all the way back from his ordeal in the spring of 2007 when he made racially insulting remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team. After being fired from CBS Radio, which distributed his radio show nationally and from MSNBC which had simulcast the show for 11 years, he signed a deal with Citadel Media to do mornings on WABC New York and a subsequent deal to simulcast the show on RFD-TV. …

Fox News Channel and Premiere Radio Networks syndicated radio talker host Glenn Beck’s latest book, Arguing With Idiots: How To Stop Small Minds And Big Government, is set to debut at #1 on the New York Times hardcover non-fiction bestseller list on October 11th. That will give Beck two books on the Times’ bestseller list, where his best seller, Glenn Beck’s Common Sense is in it’s spending its 16th week on top of the paperback non-fiction rankings.

The special NAB Radio Show issue of Al Peterson’s industry e-mag NTS (News/Talk/Sports) Media Online, has revealed the results of it’s “Talk Radio 25 Big Ones ” readers poll. The survey lists the 25 syndicated radio talkers who the newsletters readers felt best “moved the meter” and stood above the crowd. Dial Global syndicated radio talker Stephanie Miller and ESPN Radio’s “Mike and Mike In The Morning” made first time debuts on RadioTime’s “Top 19 Programs” list during the month of August.
