Los Angeles-based radio syndicator MannGroup Radio has teamed up with veteran radio programmer Jeff Wyatt and record promotion exec Iris Dillon to launch  “Afternoon Gumbo,” a new weekend offering set to begin in the first quarter of 2012. Michele Norris Takes Leave of Absense from NPR

Michele Norris, co-host of National Public Radio’s (NPR) “All Things Considered” is temporarily stepping down from the network because of husband Broderick Johnson’s decision to accept a senior advisory role with President Obama’s re-election campaign.  Norris who has been with the show since 2002, will take leave from her role after Friday’s broadcast and will continue to work for NPR producing segments and features but will not be involved in any type of election coverage.  In a statement, Norris says, “This has all happened very quickly, but working closely with NPR management, we’ve been able to make a plan that serves the show, honors the integrity of our news organization and is best for me professionally and personally.  I will certainly miss hosting, but I will remain part of the ATC team and I look forward to contributing to our show and NPR in new and exciting ways.”

Baisden Efforts Help Reunite Missing Girl and Mother

The partnership between Michael Baisden and The Black and Missing Foundation is already reaping big dividends. Exposure on Baisden’s Cumulus Media syndicated radio show has helped to locate three missing children. The most recent rescue involved Jhada Clark  who was missing for more than a month.  Taken out of state by her father, two of his co-workers heard about the case on the air and convinced him to turn the missing girl over to local authorities. Superadio Gets Saturday Nights on Z100 New York

Superadio grabs a big one picking up Clear Channel CHR WHTZ (Z100) New York for it’s syndicated Saturday Night Online Live with Romeo. The show will start airing on Z100 starting October 22. Show guests will be Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Coldplay. The show marks a return to Z100 for WIOQ Philadelphia PD Tim Herbster (Romeo) who was the music director/night jock on Z100 in the middle 2000′s. Saturday Night Online Live with Romeo is cleared on over 50 stations including WIOQ Philadelphia, KDHT Denver, WZFT Baltimore, KZHT Salt Lake City and WXXL Orlando.

The Gipper Headlines 2011 Radio Hall of Fame Inductees

Inductees for 2011 National Radio Hall of Fame are former President Ronald Reagan, sportscaster Graham McNamee, commentator H.V. Kaltenborn, old time radio shows  Gangbusters, The Great Gildersleeve, National Barn Dance and Suspense.  Jerry Springer, Bill Kurtis, sportscaster Jon Miller, country singer Rex Allen Jr. and National Public Radio’s Susan Stamberg will be among presenters November 5 at the Radio Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This years event will also feature the opening of The Radio Hall of Fame Gallery. Larry King will host the black-tie event at the Museum of Broadcast Communications.  Radio Hall of Fame Museum founder and president Bruce DuMont said, “America will finally have a place to honor the great radio broadcasters who have defined the medium- a shining beacon in the heartland that recognizes the significant role radio has played in our society.”

The ceremony is available for broadcast through Premiere Radio Networks.

Skyview Networks and The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Nashville Predators have announced a multi-year broadcast solutions partnership for radio and television that sees Skyview Networks provide its distribution service, F.A.S.T. (Flexible Audio Storage Technology) Automation, F.A.S.T. Inventory Management solution and Live Read Logging service to the franchise for all radio play-by-play broadcasts. In addition, Skyview will provide the organization with its adapted format of F.A.S.T. Inventory Management for television scheduling. “Skyview is a remarkable system and one that will automate and revolutionize the way we do business,” said Bob Kohl, Senior Director of Broadcast for the Nashville Predators. “It will make broadcast and business opportunities exponentially better.” The Nashville Predators aim to utilize the Skyview systems collectively to integrate all aspects of the radio broadcast to provide the sales, traffic and broadcast departments with one combined, open platform. The F.A.S.T. Inventory Management solution will be used for both radio and television broadcasts. The F.A.S.T. solution is uniquely tailored to the non-linear nature of play-by-play sports and will provide flexible spot scheduling and avails reporting for the franchise. F.A.S.T., used with Skyview’s Live Read Logging service, will generate all radio as-played and affidavit reports for contract fulfillment purposes. Also included in the contract is Skyview’s F.A.S.T. Automation system to aid the franchise in growing its radio network. Skyview’s F.A.S.T.
