According to the Wall Street Journal, Birmingham sports talker Paul Finebaum, is heading to ESPN for radio and television duties. Finebaum will move to Charlotte, NC to do a radio show on ESPN which will be simulcast on the SEC Network starting August 1. One of the south’s top broadcasters, Finebaum was in a legal dispute with Cumulus and predecessor Citadel over his contract, and has been sitting out a non-compete provision of his contract after the end of his WJOX Birmingham deal. The deal reportedly also includes 100 television appearances. The radio show will be distributed separately from the main ESPN Radio feed.
“It would be the understatement of my life to say I wasn’t thrilled,” Finebaum told The Journal. “It is incredibly exciting to be part of a new adventure, particularly one that involves the premier brand in sports along with the pre-eminent conference in sports.”
