Dial Global syndicated talker and WPHT-A Philadelphia morning man Michael Smerconish scored a major coup this morning when he got the call from Sen. Arlen Specter for his one and only radio interview following the announcement that he is switching from the Republican to the Democratic party. While the announcement puts the Democrats close to a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate;  Specter was facing a battle in the Pennsylvania Republican primary but is likely to face little or no opposition on the Democratic ballot.
