 KDAY...The Beat Of Syndication

It’s a radio syndicators dream, a major market signal that airs essentially all syndicated programming. Magic Broadcasting’s KDAY(93.5 The Beat) Los Angeles has just added Premiere Radio Network’s The Keith Sweat Hotel to ovenights on the station. The addition of Sweat to a line-up that already features Premiere’s Steve Harvey Show, Westwood One’s Wendy Williams, Syndication One’s Monique and Donnie McClurkin and ABC’s Michael Baisden, leaves Los Angeles legend Theo as the only local day part in the daily mix. Add American Idols Randy Jackson and his Westwood One weekend syndicated countdown show and LA is the battle ground between Urban stations with diametrically opposing programming philosophies. Stevie Wonder’s KJLH is KDAY’s primary competitor and has no syndicated programming and takes pride in it’s “All Local” position. It will be interesting as we watch this play out, to see if this will be a listener referendum on syndicated programming vs. live and local in LA.
